Amazon’s Seller Assistant Now Works While You’re Logged Out. Here’s How the New Automations Work

Amazon Seller Assistant robot monitoring an account overnight

One of the quieter but more consequential announcements out of Amazon Accelerate 2026 was an upgrade to Amazon’s own built-in Seller Assistant, the AI agent that lives inside Seller Central and runs on Amazon Bedrock with Anthropic’s Claude models underneath it. As of September 23, it does not just answer questions anymore. It can now monitor your business and respond to changes continuously, even when you are not logged in.

What actually changed

Seller Assistant already helped with pricing, inventory, listings, and advertising decisions when you were actively using it. The new piece is persistent memory of your specific pricing patterns, inventory cycles, and growth goals, combined with automations that run in the background around the clock. Instead of asking Seller Assistant a question and getting an answer, you can now set up a standing automation that watches for a condition and takes action (or flags it for your approval) whenever that condition occurs, whether you are at your desk or asleep.

How you actually set one up

You describe the automation in plain language and set guardrails around it, the same conversational style as asking Seller Assistant a question directly. Amazon ships four prebuilt templates to start from: account health monitoring, order summaries, pricing trend analysis, and expansion opportunity alerts. You can also build a fully custom automation from scratch if none of the templates fit what you actually need watched.

For each automation, you choose one of two modes. Recommendations-only means Seller Assistant flags something and waits for you to act. The action mode is where things get more interesting, and more ambiguous: Amazon’s own materials say sellers “stay in control, reviewing and approving” actions before they are carried out, which reads more like a pending-approval queue than fully unattended execution. Amazon has not published clear detail on how long a pending action waits for approval, or what happens to time-sensitive actions (like a competitor undercutting your price by a meaningful margin) if you do not approve them quickly.

Why the ambiguity matters before you turn this on

Every action does get logged with a full audit trail, which is good practice and worth checking periodically regardless of how much you trust the automation. But until Amazon clarifies the approval mechanics in more detail, it is worth assuming the more cautious interpretation: that this is closer to an active approval queue than a fully autonomous agent making changes while you sleep. Build your first automations around monitoring and alerting rather than direct action, and only move toward action-mode automations once you have watched the recommendation-only version operate for a few weeks and trust what it is seeing.

This is a different tool from the separate Claude plugin Amazon also announced at the same event, which lets outside AI assistants like Claude.ai reach into your Seller Central account from outside the platform. Seller Assistant is Amazon’s own native layer built into Seller Central itself; the Claude plugin is a way to manage your account from wherever you already do your business thinking. Depending on your workflow, you may end up using one, the other, or both for different tasks.

Where this is genuinely useful right away

  • Account health monitoring: catching a policy violation or metric slip the moment it happens instead of discovering it during a weekly check-in
  • Pricing trend analysis: flagging when a competitor moves price on a tracked ASIN, so you are reacting in hours instead of days
  • Order summaries: useful for sellers managing a large catalog who cannot realistically review every SKU’s performance manually each day
  • Expansion opportunity alerts: a lower-stakes starting point since it surfaces ideas rather than making account changes

Frequently asked questions

Does Seller Assistant make changes to my listings or prices automatically?
It depends on the mode you choose for each automation. Recommendations-only mode surfaces suggestions for you to act on, while action mode is designed around an approval step, though Amazon has not fully detailed the approval timing and mechanics yet.

Is this the same as the Claude plugin Amazon announced at Accelerate?
No. Seller Assistant is Amazon’s native, in-platform AI tool built into Seller Central. The Claude plugin is a separate integration that lets outside AI assistants access your account from outside the Seller Central interface.

What templates are available to start with?
Amazon provides four prebuilt automation templates: account health monitoring, order summaries, pricing trend analysis, and expansion opportunity alerts. Custom automations can also be built from scratch.

Should I turn on action-mode automations right away?
Given the current ambiguity around approval timing for time-sensitive actions, it is reasonable to start with recommendations-only automations and move to action mode only after you have seen how the tool behaves on your account for a few weeks.

If you want help deciding which automations are worth turning on for your specific catalog, or just want a sanity check on your account setup as these tools roll out, Depu works with Amazon sellers on exactly this kind of operational decision as a freelance Amazon FBA and e-commerce growth consultant.
