Amazon’s 2026 Holiday Peak Fees Are Here: What FBA Sellers Need to Do Before Q4

September 13, 2026 · Dchakrabarty · 4 min read

If you’re an FBA seller who hasn’t finished shipping for Prime Big Deal Days, you’re nearly out of runway. Amazon’s last inbound deadline for that event, the Amazon-optimized split option, closes September 16. But the fee news that actually affects your bottom line for the rest of the year already kicked in, and it applies whether or not you sell a single unit during Prime Big Deal Days.

The peak fee window: October 15 through January 14

Amazon’s holiday peak fulfillment fees apply to any unit shipped to a customer between October 15, 2026 and January 14, 2027. That’s shipped, not received. If your inventory has been sitting in an Amazon warehouse since August but a customer order ships on October 16, that unit still gets charged the peak rate. Plan your inventory timing around ship dates, not around your own sense of when the holidays start.

How much more you’ll actually pay

Amazon says the average increase is about $0.32 per unit, but the real number depends entirely on your size tier. A mobile phone case moves from $2.49 to $2.68. A large standard t-shirt goes from $6.14 to $6.53. If you sell bulky or heavy items, pull your specific size tier’s peak rate rather than trusting the average, because it can run well above thirty two cents for larger products.

The surcharge that’s easy to miss

On top of the peak fee, Amazon is also applying a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge to fulfillment costs, a fee that’s been in effect since April 2026 and stacks with the peak season increase. Using the t-shirt example, that $6.53 peak fee becomes roughly $6.76 once the surcharge is applied. If you’re building your Q4 profitability model off last year’s fee structure, you’re underestimating your fulfillment cost on every single unit you ship.

Inbound deadlines you can’t ship around

Amazon’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday deadlines are the ones that matter most for total Q4 volume:

  • AWD shipments: October 14
  • FBA with minimal splits: October 21
  • FBA with Amazon-optimized splits: October 28

These are the latest arrival dates at Amazon’s fulfillment network, not the date you should ship by. Build in time for production, transit, customs clearance, and receiving delays, especially if you’re importing. A shipment that arrives one day late can mean missing your entire Black Friday and Cyber Monday selling window, no matter how good your listing or your price looks.

What to actually do this week

Pull your current inventory by size tier and estimate your true landed fulfillment cost for October 15 onward, surcharge included. Compare it against your Q4 pricing to confirm your margins still work once both fees are stacked in. Then check your production and shipping timelines against the October deadlines above, building in buffer for anything crossing an ocean or a customs checkpoint. If your numbers are tight, this is also the moment to reconsider promotional pricing or bundle strategy for Q4, since your fulfillment cost per unit just went up whether you planned for it or not.

Frequently asked questions

When exactly do the higher fulfillment fees start?
October 15, 2026, based on the ship date to the customer, not when your inventory arrived at Amazon. The peak rate runs through January 14, 2027.

Is the fee increase the same for every product?
No. Amazon cites a $0.32 average increase per unit, but the actual number varies by size tier. Smaller items see smaller increases in dollar terms, while larger and heavier items can see more.

Is the fuel and logistics surcharge new?
No, that 3.5% surcharge has applied since April 2026. What’s new is that it now stacks on top of the peak season fee increase for the October through January window.

What happens if my inventory arrives after the deadline?
You risk missing that selling window entirely, since these are Amazon’s latest arrival dates for guaranteed availability during the event, not shipping recommendations.
