For years, Amazon’s Premium A+ Content was basically an invite-only club. You needed a roughly five million dollar annual sales threshold, a track record of approved standard A+ submissions, and often a wait to even get considered. As of May 18, 2026, that gate is gone. Amazon enabled Premium A+ Content by default for every Brand Registered seller, no invitation, no revenue minimum, no waitlist.
If you’ve been building listings with basic A+ modules because Premium always felt out of reach, this is worth revisiting before you touch another product page.
What actually changed on May 18
Amazon removed the previous eligibility barriers in one move: the roughly five million dollar annual sales requirement, the invitation-only access model, and the requirement to have several approved standard A+ submissions before you could even apply for Premium. Seller Central notifications confirming the rollout went out by May 21, 2026. The wider access appears to span multiple marketplaces too, with sellers in the US, UK, and EU all reporting the change taking effect around the same window. If you’re Brand Registered and haven’t checked your A+ Content manager recently, it’s worth another look, since access is now automatic rather than something you have to request.
What Premium actually gets you
Basic A+ Content covers standard text and image modules and simple comparison layouts. Premium adds a meaningfully different toolkit:
- Video carousels embedded directly in the module, not just in the main image gallery
- Hotspot images that let shoppers click into specific product features
- Full-width banners for stronger visual storytelling above the fold
- Enhanced comparison charts for showing your product lineup or stacking up against a competitor’s spec sheet
- Enhanced text modules with more flexible layout options
None of this is revolutionary on its own. What’s new is that you no longer need a track record or a sales threshold to use it.
The catch: Quality Score
Access being automatic doesn’t mean every listing benefits automatically. Amazon is pairing this rollout with a Quality Score standard that evaluates completeness, image quality, and module mix. A Premium module built with a stretched product photo and a half filled comparison chart isn’t going to outperform a well built Basic A+ page. If anything, wider access raises the bar, because your competitors now have the same tools you do, and the sellers who actually invest in doing it well are the ones who’ll see the lift.
Where to start if you’re doing this today
Don’t try to rebuild every listing at once. Prioritize your highest traffic ASINs first, since that’s where a conversion rate improvement compounds the most. Pull your current A+ Content, check it against the Quality Score criteria (completeness, image resolution, whether you’re actually using more than one module type), and rebuild the weakest sections with Premium modules where they add real value, not just because they’re available now. A hotspot image only helps if the product actually has features worth pointing out. A video carousel only helps if you have footage worth showing.
Amazon specifically flagged major retail periods, starting with Prime Day in June 2026, as a reason to move quickly. The same logic applies heading into Q4: better A+ Content on your top sellers before peak traffic arrives is a higher leverage use of your time than adding it to long tail ASINs that get a handful of visits a month.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to apply for Premium A+ Content?
No. If you’re Brand Registered, access is automatic as of the May 2026 rollout. There’s no application, sales threshold, or waitlist anymore.
Does Premium A+ Content replace Basic A+ Content?
No, Basic A+ Content still exists and still works. Premium adds a wider set of modules, including video carousels, hotspot images, and full-width banners, on top of what Basic offers.
Will using Premium modules automatically improve my rankings or conversion?
Not automatically. Amazon evaluates listings against a Quality Score that looks at completeness, image quality, and module mix, so a poorly built Premium page won’t outperform a well built Basic one.
Which listings should I update first?
Start with your highest traffic ASINs. A conversion improvement on your best sellers has a much bigger dollar impact than the same improvement spread across low volume listings.
